X1 Technologies Extends X1® Platform with New Content Connectors for Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SharePoint

X1 Content Connectors Deliver Unified Actionable Search for Dominant Enterprise Business Environments

PASADENA, CA – June 19, 2006 X1 Technologies, a leader in enterprise desktop search, today announced expanded platform support for Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SharePoint through X1 Content Connectors. The new X1 Content Connecters allow companies to leverage all their critical Microsoft systems through secure, unified search with pre-built connectors to Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint. With the X1 Enterprise Platform, users can search, preview and take action on critical Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint and Microsoft Office documents, through a single, secure enterprise desktop search interface. Users do not need to know where the data is stored - whether in SharePoint, Exchange or local or networked drives in order to preview, print or take other action on the search results.
"Microsoft Sharepoint and Exchange comprise two of the most pervasive corporate applications, hosting a vast amount of corporate content, said Sue Feldman, Research Vice President, Content Management and Retrieval Solutions at IDC. "End users are struggling to find and take action on the content in those applications as well as others across the enterprise. With X1's addition of content connectors for Sharepoint and Exchange, IT has a secure, scalable and extensible solution today that securely federates desktop and enterprise content into a single view, enabling end users to take action on results and improve productivity."
X1 Content Connector for Microsoft Exchange
The X1 Content Connector for Microsoft Exchange gives users immediate access to any content in their Exchange system. X1 enables powerful, unified search capability across Exchange server clusters, local files and local email. Users can conduct a single search that combines results from public folders, their own inbox, and personal archive files (PST's). Through seamless integration with Microsoft Outlook®, users can perform advanced email management functions from the X1 Professional Client or X1 Browser Client on any search result.
Through the X1 Content Connector for Microsoft Exchange, the X1 Enterprise Server indexes the contents of one or more Exchange servers in a secure, scalable and manageable manner. Users can search, filter and sort results based on the full-text contents of Exchange items and metadata fields.
Search results will not be returned for specific content when users do not have access rights to that data, respecting Exchange's built-in security model. Administrators control which accounts and Exchange object types are indexed and set indexing schedules to minimize server workload.
The X1 Browser Client enables zero-footprint, remote access, via Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, to Exchange content indexed on the X1 Enterprise Server. Integrated with Microsoft Outlook Web Access™, the X1 Browser Client maps to end users' existing permissions and delivers the full email search experience to users, in a web browser, without installing any software on the users desktop. Administrators can mix and match browser client and thick client deployments to best fit their users' needs, lowering overall administrative costs and accelerating deployment.
The X1 Content Connector for Microsoft Exchange also supports e-discovery efforts. With X1, an authorized administrator can perform searches that span employee email accounts, filter and preview results in an instant, and export relevant results to .PST files or folders for discovery purposes.
"Our organization uses email 80% of the time for communication with thousands of new emails going into hundreds of public folders daily," said Mike Rinken, IT Manager at Fentress Bradburn. "Before we had the X1 Exchange Content Connector, our network was struggling with the traffic created by indexing and re-indexing the Exchange folders so we could search on the most current information. By centralizing and indexing on the X1 Enterprise Server, searches are run in one location and results are federated in the X1 client, resulting in a huge reduction in our network traffic."
X1 Content Connector for Microsoft SharePoint
The X1 Content Connector for Microsoft SharePoint enables end users to find, preview and take action on content in their SharePoint environments. X1 enables powerful, unified search capabilities across multiple SharePoint sites, local files and local email. They receive federated search results from both local and enterprise server-based content and preview them in native format. Users can also perform common functions from within the X1 interface such as Check-in, Check-out, or custom post-search actions that align with business processes.
Through the X1 Content Connector for Microsoft SharePoint, the X1 Enterprise Server indexes the contents of one or more SharePoint sites in a secure, scalable and manageable manner. Users can search, filter and sort results based on the full-text contents of Document Libraries and metadata fields.
Search results are not returned for specific content when users do not have access rights to that data, respecting existing security. Administrators can specify which sites to index as well as what types of documents to index and then can set indexing schedules to minimize server workload.
"Our mission is to provide secure, instant access to all critical business information in the workplace", said Josh Jacobs, president, X1 Technologies. "Microsoft SharePoint has become a critical information system for many companies. As SharePoint grows in popularity, customers are asking for a single search solution that unifies the desktop, email server and content repository in a seamless fashion, something X1 delivers today."
